About the Script Pitch

...

Okay, so I've been to Berlin, spent a couple of days with Lissi, and did lots of things: had a meeting with the editor, had a meeting with the composer, had workshops, had parties, went to a band rehearsal, travelled in the coolest VW Transporter of the world in the sunshine in the morning, listened to freestyle German rap in the kitchen, experienced a secret underground theater-pub, played with a balloon in the middle of the party and used my pocket as an ashtray (by accident of course).

Amongst all these things unfortunately the winning wasn't there - but the experience is the most important and precious thing for me at the moment because each and every member of our little team turns their head to a higher level and a bigger aim at the moment.

I WILL TELL YOU ABOUT IT A BIT LATER!

Until then, enjoy some pictures about crazy town called Berlin:

aaaaaand soon I'll be back with some good news!!!

Interfilm Festival Script Pitch 2013

...

Ok, so as I promised, there are some good news: The Wild Boar was selected for the Script Pitch 2013 at the Interfilm Festival, Berlin.

Look! They misspelled my long and difficult family name!

So tomorrow I will get on a plane, fly to Berlin, then do my best to tell the story of The Wild Boar in 3 minutes, without screening, without pictures, without anything... I will have only a mic and the stage!

Just like a stand up comedist!

Definitely it will be a good opportunity to increase my pitching skills!

Soon I'll be back with some pictures filled with Berlin air and - beers...

Au revoir mon Abbaye de Fontevraud!!!

...

With my bleeding heart, I had to say goodbye to my beloved Abbaye de Fontevraud last week - my month was over.

Good bye Abbey, you improved my animatic a lot, you  increased my results with running, you amazed me with your beauty and you gave me the morning when I was woke up by Jean-Pierre Mocky clomping in my room.

I might flew away but a tiny piece of my heart stood there forever and ever, Amen.

In memorian my last run around the Abbaye... a pic of the village taken from a hill

A painting I gave to the Abbaye

Aaaaand now, the Wild Boar is rumbling away in Europe, soon I will let you know!!!!

La Lettre de l'AFCA

Ahh, yes.

Opportunities come with the residency in Abbaye de Fontevraud!

On 4th and 5th of October we had lectures, meetings, and events with professionals from the field of animation! We also had an interview on 5th of October during the breakfast - you cannot imagine a nicer thing than being interviewed between two bits of croissant at your breakfast table in the middle of a huge hall where everybody's having their breakfast.... But! The guy who made the interview with us, Alexis Shigeru Hunot, had good questions, so it was fun!

After the breakfast we had the opportunity to present our projects to the audience.  I had some pages of my storyboard, some inspirational sketches and some concept designs on my table. And there were lots of people who are interested and asked questions about the story and the technique of The Wild Boar.

Look! Who would have thought?! The wonderful Michael Dudok de Wit and Robert Bennett is looking at my stuff! No wonder I'm smiling!

Also, there's an interview in the La Lettre de l'AFCA with the residents of Abbaye de Fontevraud 2013!
Check my funny answers about the Star Wars and the 101 Dalmatians and some other important things (I'm afraid the title was given because of me...).

Enjoy!

Je vis dans un château comme un princesse

Ok, The Wild Boar is in a late (but only with the blog, only with the blog!) - please forgive me, but there are so many things going on at the moment!

Definitely it's a really exciting period of the making of the film :)

So, what happened?

Approximately one year ago I applied for a residency in the beautiful and amazing place of Abbaye de Fontevraud - and this year at springtime I got a mail, that I was selected for the 1 month residency!

I was totally honored  - there were more than 100 applications, and they only took 10 people out of that 100 - and 1 was my little Wild Boar, and me!

So I arrived on the first day of October, and I spend the whole month here, working on the animatic of The Wild Boar. I have to say that this place is a perfect place for work - it's beautiful, calm, and as much isolated as it should be. It's unbelievable to work and live in a building which is more than 900 years old, and where Richard I. the Lionheart's body was buried!

I tell myself each and every day how blessed I am to be here.

Also the 8 artists who I spend this month here (yes, you read it right - unfortunately the croatian guy, Velko wasn't able to come) are really inspiring people with outstanding works!

How did it start...

Who's back from the Talent Campus!

Me!

Before I'll write about my experiences in beautiful city of Sarajevo, let me have a couple of words about how it started.... two years ago. A bit more than two years ago.

It's been a long time I had this idea about making a story of a wild boar. Maybe it started when I got my dog, who's a silly little mass weapon of cuteness. But: she's also barky, barky as hell. Now it's better than it was when she was a puppy, but it's still annoying in some situations... She has a really REALLY sharp voice, maybe because she's a sheepdog mix... I don't know.

But let's just imagine, walking in the hungarian woods (which are famous about being rich in wild boars) with this noise machine... I had enough time to think about what to do if a wild boar appears...

Well, here's my advice: if there's something, what you are thinking about again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again - then it's the best way to make a film out of it!

I had a million version of stories about wild boars, what could happen to this wild boar, wild boars here and there, etc., etc....
(Sorry, it's just I EFFIN LOVE WILD BOARS. I could talk and talk for hours about wild boars.. I'm also thinking about making a blog about wild boars. Well, it doesn't mean I don't eat them.. My fav dish is wild boar stew. Last time I had it was last week.)

Okay, so about two years ago it was getting more and more clear what I really wanted to make out of this topic. (Of course I won't tell it to you here, you have to wait, until the film will be done!)

The thing which helps me A LOT, is drawing. I was just drawing, drawing, and drawing, and kept thinking about this story.

After I got my idea of the story, I worked with Rita Domonyi, and Daniel Gray script doctors to create the storyline - which I'm still working on a bit! Maybe for an outsider it seems that creating a story is easy as slap - but it's not.
I also had to create the visual style, and the atmosphere of this story - which I got in my mind, then all I had to do is "just" put that image on the screen what I'd had in my head....

It took a while pulling together the whole stuff, and then I could start applying to tenders, programs, and pitches... It wasn't easy, and it wasn't quick. But it was well worth my time.

The reason is why I write it down for you, is to see, that making a movie (even a short. and even if you have awards.) isn't as quick as a snap.

It wasn't for me either.

But this year was the first time, when there were some the positive feedbacks. One. And one more. And one more. And one more. Succesful applications. Succesful e-mails. Being selected for a Pitch Forum. Being selected for the STC.
And more...

All I can say to you is Mr. Gray's advice about this whole thing:

"You do everything you can possibly do until all that's needed is money. You have something ready to go and who ever provides the funding has something tangible straight away" /Damien Hirst/

Aaaaaaaaaand next time I'll be back with some exciting news!!!

*stay WildBoar tuned!*

Sarajevo Talent Campus!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy happy joy joy!

Me and my Wild Boar project was selected for the Sarajevo Talent Campus, which will be held at the same time as the Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina!

I'm so honoured that they picked me as one of the 20 young southeast european directors - and as the only director from Hungary!!!

"The high-quality programme consisting of a series of workshops, discussions and screenings, together with the presence of renowned film professionals.." - sounds great isn't it?

I just can't wait to go there and experience it all!

Also, the topping on the cake: the STC has a collaboriation with the Robert Bosch Stiftung from Germany, so we might have an opportunity to present our projects to german producers - which is totally great :)

There will be 5 of us from Hungary, and I will definitely inform you guys from all the interesting things from Sarajevo!!!

*fingers crossed*

!VAF 2013

So, The Wild Boar was selected as project to pitch at the Visegrád Animation Forum 2013, in Trebon, Czech Republic. There were 9 short film projects to pitch, so I was pretty glad to be there.

Well, I wouldn't say I was a cool pitcher. I was nervous because that was my first serious pitch I've ever had in my little tiny dirty life  (not to mention the workshop ones). All together, it was such a great experience and we spend 4 lovely days in that cute little city. Although I didn't win, I got good feedbacks, made some new connections and met some old friends, had lovely czech beers and we danced barefoot together!

All I can tell is go and experience the Bohemian Region, because it's worth it!
*hint: don't leave your bike at home, yeo.

Me sweating next to Nicolas Burlet (Nadasdy studio, Switzerland), Olivier de Bannes (O2b Films, France),Espen Olaisen (Oneiros, Norway) or Thom Palmen (Botnia films, Sweeden, Estonia) and Vanja Andrijevic (Bonobo Studio, Croatia).
